Monty Python's Cocurricular Mediaeval Reenactment Programme

A Roleplaying Game (No it isn't!)

"Funny" RPGs can be difficult to pull off, but this one really manages to bring out the silly energy of Monty Python's movies, show, and more. For those unfamiliar, the setting is primarily adapted from Holy Grail's Arthurian England, but with a ton of other Python references adapted in. Characters have just five Traits (or fewer, since a Retainer takes up a Trait slot) that go up and down throughout the game. The GM actively plays a persona (the 'Head of Light Entertainment"), who can be fired and replaced if things go poorly. And it uses some very wacky dice. If that all sounds fun, you should give it a look!

As is my wont, I've created some resources for the game:

Monty Python: Shoppe and Settlement Generator

An online app that uses the rules in Appendix B to quickly create a single shoppe or an entire settlement.

Monty Python: Fetchez la Vache (Freeform)

If you don't have a Fetchez la Vache set, or just don't feel like breaking it all out, here's how to simulate a game of FlV during your Reenactment Programme.

Monty Python: HoLE Summary Cards

Everything you need to know about each Head of Light Entertainment, sized to work perfectly with the official HoLE Screen. See the last page of the PDF for details.

Monty Python: Table Tent

A 2-up table tent with a dice chart and useful page references. If you use printed B&W character sheets (because death is cheap but color ink is expensive), this offsets any drawbacks to doing so.

Rule Clarifications and FAQs

  • Tied Rolls: For Deeds and Tests, PCs win ties (against NPCs). For PC-vs-PC Deeds and Tests, the defender wins. For opposed rolls other than Deeds and Tests, the GM can either stick to this or come up with a "compromise" result if one seems fitting.
