Torg Eternity Magic

The first section on this page is a list of all relevant traditions, sorted first by cosm, then by archetype, then by the controlling skill, to better help players decide how to build their Storm Knights. They also include TorgHacker's excellent "alternative arcane failure modes" (originally posted here), which go a long way toward helping different types of arcane Storm Knights feel different. (Except for Core Earth casters, which I modified, and Orrorsh casters, which I came up with.)

The second is a list of all Torg spells, for ease of reference. It uses the same page-reference format as my Perk List.

Note: The addendum "(or LRC)" in the Range stat is a reminder that contradictory effects are limited to a range of one kilometer, per the Long-Range Contradictions rules on p. 180.

Magical Traditions

Unlike miracles or psi, casting a spell requires the caster be able to speak and gesture with one hand freely.

On a failure, the magician suffers 2 Shock.

The effects of a Mishap depend on the mage's home cosm; see below. Note that the Mishap replaces the 2 Shock lost from a failure -- do not apply both!

Any spell marked with a (β) is not available until Beta clearance.

Aysle

Cantrips: In addition to the spell list above, everyone with the necessary magical skill has access to cantrips (minor spells) while within the cosm of Aysle. See pp. A36-37 for details. (Cantrip Errata: Animal Sense has Range: Self.)

Core Earth

Mishap: The caster loses connection with Earth's ley lines and cannot cast further spells until they sacrifice a full turn to realign themselves.

Arcane Investigator

  • Alteration: diminish, energy shield, enhance, fear, without a trace.

Dabbler

Cyberpapacy

Mishap: The caster takes 1 BD Shock; reroll 1s (once per 1). This is in addition to the Cyberpapacy's Law of Heretical Magic, if applicable.

Note: "Witch" and "warlock" are both gender-neutral. The latter refers to members of the Children of the Fallen (a.k.a. the Forsworn) and the Sicarius Maleficarum, both "evil NPC" groups.

Cyberwitch

  • Alteration: armor, bolster will, cyberharmony, diminish, disguise, dispel magic, enhance, fear, hack construct, haste, lifehacker, protective circle, scrambler, slow, stun.

Nile Empire

Mishap: The caster takes 2 Shock. Also, if he has cards in an action pool, replace a random one with a new Destiny Card. If not, he must discard his entire hand and draw the same number of new Destiny cards. If he has no cards, this instead affects another (random) PC! If an NPC has a Mishap, one random player may draw a Destiny card.

Engineer

  • Alteration: dispel magic, entropy, mechanical trap, neutralize traps.
  • Apportation: bullet, mage hands, open lock.
  • Conjuration: mage light, magical trap.
  • Divination: alarm, calculate weakness, detect magic, detect traps, map building, pathfinder.

Mathematician

Pulp Sorcerer

  • Alteration: astral form, invisibility (even though it's a Contradiction in the Nile Empire!).
  • Apportation: N/A.
  • Conjuration: blue bands of bastet, figment, glamor, images of isis, phantasm.
  • Divination: N/A.

Sorcerer

  • Alteration: diminish, disguise, dispel magic, enhance, fear, haste, protective circle, slow, stun.
  • Apportation: bullet, fly, mage hands, open lock, portal.
  • Conjuration: lightning, mage light, shield.
  • Divination: alarm, detect magic, gain language, pathfinder, scry, speak with dead.

Orrorsh

Mishap: The caster takes 2 Shock and the player makes a tally mark on their character sheet.

Tally Marks: Once you've accumulated 3+ marks, the GM will wait until the group succeeds admirably on an important action (even an action that you aren't involved in). When that happens, wicked forces will give you a choice: turn their victory to dust (the action fails completely and cannot be salvaged) or make an immediate Corruption check. Either way, all your tally marks are cleared.

Empowering Spells With Corruption: Mages in Orrorsh or from Orrorsh may do this. See p. O23 for details.

Dark Rituals

  • Alteration: autumnal slumber (β).
  • Apportation: monkey's paw, nightmare aegis, transfer corruption.
  • Conjuration: death haunt, pestilence.

Occultist

Tharkold

Mishap: The caster suffers 2 Shock, and any demonic entities (or equivalent) within 10 kilometers are alerted and may show up to cause problems in the near future (GM's call). This is most likely in Tharkold, since technodemons are expert at homing in on such things and often send their minions to bring them the pitiful human who attracted their attention.

Acolyte
